What's so great about DVD?

In short, DVD is the most comprehensive home entertainment format available in terms of picture quality, dynamic sound and user features. It is revolutionising the way we view and hear movies at home. The way of the future.

DVD (Digital Video Disc) is the result of years of research and development. The high-capacity disc technology, allows more information to be stored on a CD-sized disc. In fact, a DVD can hold 7 times more data than a CD! Movies on DVD have amazing clarity, and they are unmatched for home theatre realism.

To match the advances in visual technology, a new surround sound system was developed called Dolby Digital (AC3). This means that with a home cinema set-up all the speakers run independently of each other. Different signals go to different speakers, creating a surround sound effect. It reproduces sound that you would expect to hear at the movies, but it’s in the comfort of your own home.

DVD also has many other advantages over standard VHS video, such as a variety of viewing options:

  • Multilingual dialogue and subtitles.
  • A DVD movie can include dialogue
  • in up to 8 languages and subtitles
  • in up to 32 languages.
  • DVD discs can have alternate camera angles for you to choose when viewing.
  • DVD movies can have a number of different plots and endings to choose from.
  • Parental lock allows for violent or objectionable scenes to be eliminated and replaced by alternative scenes.

There are selectable screen formats, so that images can be squeezed or expanded to suit conventional or widescreen TVs.
